Abe-no-Monjuin

Abe-no-Monjuin is an temple which is built at 645 and recognized as one of the oldest temples. Monju Bosatu, which is the principal object of worship was created by Kaikei.

In the main architecture, you can see Tokai Monju sculptures – Kishimonju, Zenzai Doji, Udennou, Subozai, and Yuimakoji. All of 5 sculpture are admitted as national treasure.

There are some other architectures belongs to Abe-no-Monjuin. Kinkaku Ukimido, which is located in center of Monju pond stores a few treasured items related with Onmyodo.

In Autumn, you can also enjoy maze walk surrounded by cosmos flowers.

What the important is – there was an American person who tried to persuade US Army to avoid attacking historical temples in order to protect cultural assets in Asuka region during World War Two.
